I will be whole. I will be new.
―Marc[src]

Marc was a demon who posed as a Sunnydale High School student. He was the final member of the brotherhood of seven demons responsible for cursing Sid.[1]

Biography

I reach into the hat, and out... comes... Has anybody seen a rabbit?
―Marc[src]

Under the guise of a student, Marc participated in the 1997 Sunnydale Talent Show, pretending to be an amateur magician while scouting for potential victims. He required a heart and brain to complete a ritual that would allow him to retain his human form for seven more years. His first victim was Emily Djiemanowicz, a dancer whose heart he removed. When Rupert Giles questioned him about Emily, Marc redirected the Scooby Gang's suspicion to fellow student Morgan Shay, the talent show's ventriloquist.[1]

After targeting Morgan, Marc removed his brain, only to discover it was unusable due to a tumor. In need of healthy organs, he discarded Morgan's brain and sought a new victim. As his human form began to deteriorate, Marc set his sights on Giles, convincing him to participate in a magic act involving a guillotine. He strapped Giles into the device so that the blade would slice through his skull, but his attempt was interrupted by the Slayer, Buffy Summers.[1]

As the fight continued, Marc reverted to his true demonic form. Though powerful enough to overpower Buffy, his aggression left him exposed to Sid, a demon hunter who sought to kill the final member of the brotherhood to end his curse. Marc was kicked into the guillotine and beheaded when Alexander Harris released the blade. Knowing decapitation alone would not kill him, Sid drove a knife through Marc's heart, destroying him and finally breaking his curse.[1]

Every seven years these demons need human organs, a brain and a heart, to maintain their humanity. Otherwise they revert back to their original form, which is slightly less appealing.
―Rupert Giles[src]

In his human guise, Marc appeared as a teenage boy with sandy blond hair.[1]

His true form was that of a large, muscular reptilian humanoid with spotted, scaly skin, curved fangs, and elongated claws.[1]

Powers and abilities

It's not enough. He'll come back. You have to get the heart. Then all of this'll be over.

Marc possessed superhuman strength, comparable to that of Buffy. He also demonstrated agility, allowing him to hold his own in combat against the Slayer.[1]

In addition to his physical power, Marc was capable of being resurrected after decapitation, only permanently dying after his heart was destroyed.[1]
