- “But oh, no, you still think it's neat having Slayer strength. Ooh, big deal! Stronger than humans! Who isn't?”
- ―Glorificus[src]
Strength was the ability to exert physical force, particularly when it exceeded the normal limits of the body.[1] It was a common power among many supernatural beings, though the degree of strength varied between individuals and species.[2][3][4]
Strong beings
Vampires
- Vampire: Some were described as rising stronger than they had been as humans.[5][6][7]
- Turok-Han: A Slayer with experience against multiple vampires had significant difficulty with the strength of a Turok-Han during her first encounter.[8]
- Van-Tal: Theorized to be the purest form of a vampire's demonic nature. Van-Tals lacked the overall weakness of a vampire's human form.[9]
- Zompire: They were observed to possess greater strength than common vampires.[10][11]
- Slaypire: They possessed the combined strength of a Slayer and a vampire, making them notably stronger than both their original Slayer[2][12] and vampire counterparts.[11]
- New vampire: Their strength was superior to common vampires; one was able to toss a car aside, while an experienced vampire recognized that he could not do the same,[4] at least not as easily.[13]
- Dracula: His strength exceeded that of new vampires, as he was able to behead one by strangling them with his bare hands.[14]
Demons
- Vengeance demon: Possessed strength greater than humans, rivaling the power of Slayers.[15] They were capable of lifting a human,[16] sending a vampire flying backward with a punch,[17] and throwing an opponent across the room.[15]
- Mok'tagar demon: Kathy Newman was able to throw a human in the air and overpower a Slayer during a fight.[18]
- M'Fashnik: Could lift and throw humans.[19]
- Fyarl demon: Could easily break solid wood.[20]
- Kailiff demon: Often employed as muscle-for-hire.[21]
- Vyasa: Could decapitate humans with ease.[22]
- Lorophage demon: Significantly stronger than vampires, they could easily overpower multiple humans, as well as a 250-year-old vampire.[23][24]
- Baphon: Stronger than vampires.[25]
- Brotherhood of seven demons: Could break free from a wooden coffin.[26]
- Nezzla demon: Capable of throwing humans around.[27]
- Burrower: Human hosts exhibited enhanced strength.[28]
- Ovu Mobani: Possessed humans displayed increased strength.[29]
- Tothric Clan: Could easily overpower humans.[30]
- Eyghon: Possessed humans had great strength.[31]
- Puppet demon: Had notable strength relative to their small size, capable of overpowering humans.[32]
- Granok demon: Could move two tons with ease.[33]
- Lei-ach demon: Capable of throwing humans.[34]
- Hellion: Could decapitate a vampire with their bare hands.[35]
- Bug crew: Able to smash through concrete walls.[36]
Other supernatural beings
- Mummy: Could overpower humans larger than themselves.[37]
- Olaf: Even without his Enchanted Hammer, the troll had sufficient strength to send a Slayer flying with a slap.[38]
- The Beast: Demonstrated strength greater than that of a Slayer.[39]
- Ugly Man: Demonstrated strength exceeding that of a Slayer.[2]
- Whistler: As a demon/higher being hybrid, Whistler inherited strength from both species, especially in his demonic form.[40] He was capable of throwing Angel through a wall,[41] punching through the vampire's chest,[42] and cracking the ceiling by punching the powerful half-demons Pearl and Nash into it.[43]
Humans
- Slayer: Capable of lifting and throwing human-sized individuals significant distances,[5][44][45][46][47][48][17][10] propelling enemies into the air with a single blow,[44][49][50][51][52][53] bending solid metal with their bare hands,[5][54][55][56][57][58] breaking human bones with ease,[59][60] and punching into concrete walls without injury.[47][39]
- Buffy Summers: In addition to standard Slayer strength, her power was temporary increased under an enjoining spell, allowing her to punch through Adam's armored hide,[61] and she could lift a train with one hand while empowered by the Twilight prophecy.[62]
- Caleb: Empowered by the First Evil, he could shatter solid concrete with his bare hands, snap necks with ease, and send opponents flying dozens of feet with a single blow.[63]
- Marcus Hamilton: Could easily punch a hole through a man's chest.[64]
- Primal: When possessed, could achieve strength nearly equal to that of a Slayer.[65]
- Severin: After absorbing large amounts of mystical energy, he became strong enough to physically overpower Illyria.[66]
Robots
- April: Could easily lift and throw humans.[67]
- Bio-mechanical demonoid: Possessed strength greater than demons, vampires and Slayers.[68][69][70]
- The Buffybot: Could shatter bricks by punching them.[35]
- Moloch: His robotic body gave him strength greater than a Slayer's, allowing him to easily smash through solid walls.[71]
Higher beings and Old Ones
- Glorificus: Possessed strength exceeding that of Slayers[72] and vampires.[73] Could level a building by stomping her foot[72] and slaughter hundreds of men in seconds.[74]
- Illyria: While in a human shell, she possessed superhuman strength that allowed her to simultaneously overpower two vampires over 100 years old.[75] Even after a Mutari generator stripped much of her power, Illyria could shatter a demon's head with a single punch,[76] and Spike described a hit from her as comparable to being struck by a Mack truck.[77] After her resurrection, she could throw both a Slayer and a car high into the air.[78]
Enhancements
There were several means to temporarily increase one's strength considerably.
- Peter Clarner used a special formula to enhance his strength, strong enough to break open the library cage door used to house werewolves.[79]
- The drugs administered to Initiative agents by Maggie Walsh enhanced their physical abilities, but did not grant them supernatural strength.[80]
- Equipped by a human, the Orbs of Nezzla'khan granted sufficient strength to lift the back end of an armored car.[81]
- Casting a spell on oneself could grant enough strength to challenge a Slayer.[56]
- Vampires could enhance their strength by drinking special blood.[76]
- A mystical drug could increase a Kwaini demon's strength to twenty times its normal level.[82]
- After drinking from the Asclepian vial, Andrew Wells' ideal self possessed strength comparable to "Golden-Age Superman."[83]
