Luke was a vampire, a member of the Order of Aurelius, and served as the Vessel for the Master during the Harvest in 1996.[1]
Biography
Early life
Luke was sired sometime before 1843. That year, an enemy he attacked survived the encounter, which Luke claimed had not happened since. The Master considered surviving a fight against Luke to be strong evidence that the individual could be the Slayer.[1]
The Harvest
In 1996, Luke was greeted by the Master after a rest lasting three score years. He also encountered the current Slayer, Buffy Summers, while she was fighting two other members of the Order, Darla and Thomas. With Thomas dead and Darla finding Buffy too powerful, Luke intervened and overpowered the Slayer.[2] As he attempted to bite her, Luke was repelled upon coming into contact with her cross necklace, which had been given to her by Angel.[1]
Chosen as the Master's Vessel, Luke fed on victims to transfer their strength to the Master in preparation for his escape from his mystical prison. During the night of the Harvest, Luke led a group of vampires to take the Bronze hostage, providing the Master with enough victims to feed on.[1]
Just before Luke could bite Cordelia Chase, Buffy arrived and fought him once again. She ultimately defeated Luke by catching him off guard — shattering a window and claiming that the sun had risen. Luke attempted to shield himself, even though the sun was not due to rise for another nine hours, allowing Buffy to stake him, disrupt the ritual, and keep the Master imprisoned.[1]
Powers and abilities
- “Luke is the Vessel! Every soul he takes will feed me.”
- ―The Master[src]
Luke possessed the standard powers and weaknesses of vampires. However, due to his advanced age, he was seemingly stronger and more agile than most, including the 400-year-old Darla, making him capable of overpowering a Slayer.[2][1]
After becoming the Vessel, Luke was mystically linked to the Master, who drew strength from every human Luke fed on during the Harvest.[1]
